BIM at Koda design

Building Information Modelling

We are doing exciting things at Koda Design and we would like to share how we are using BIM technologies to satisfy the ever increasing project demand for faster, better, cost effective deliverables.

We model instead of draw. No matter how small or large the project, our designers and expert modelling team builds your new project in a three dimensional (3D), virtual real environment. 3D modelling gives designers the opportunity to manage design iteration visually and gives clients a better understanding of spatial properties and finish selections. Our detailed construction drawings are derived from this same model, which improves accuracy and speed in documentation.

We use ‘smart’ model objects for increased efficiency and productivity as well as error reduction. Our model objects are capable of changing dimensions and material finishes on the fly with improved accuracy.

We manage our project data ‘intelligently’. We have a growing library of 3D smart objects which we have developed in-house over several years of research and development that contain data we require for reporting. This means less data entry and time saved sourcing information. We are able to leverage data derived from the model for quantity takes offs, schedules and calculations.

We share and coordinate our models with stakeholders. We collaborate with consultants such as Mechanical and Fire services and link our models into the one 3D environment to quickly determine clashes which we are then able to resolve before the project goes to construction. This not only saves time and money during construction, but results in an overall better building and superior integrated design outcome.

Of all the ways Koda Design are using technology to improve efficiency, accuracy and project outcomes, my personal favourite is how we are using virtual reality (VR) in different ways every day.

For example;

• sending a shopfitter a realistic interactive VR model to communicate the design intent of a point of sale counter

• presenting a retail design manager a virtual reality video of how a uniquely designed dynamic shopfront sign views at different angles for the purpose of sign off

• walking a client through our virtual model to immerse them in their new premises before the builder is even engaged

Our talented team does such a fantastic job of creating detailed virtual real environments, we are getting more dynamic and superior results communicating design outcomes and gaining stakeholder confidence and design appreciation which leads to better appreciation and sign off of our final design.

While this technology is not new to market, what really differentiates Koda Design is our team of professionals. It is the team's willingness and expert knowledge, skill, talent, hard work and dedication, that results in doing what we do best, great design tailored to our clients needs.
